Boksburg lose against NWU

Mercurial midfielder David Woolls scored the solo try for the Owls with Forrest Roos adding a conversion and a penalty from the boot.

TW Boksburg Rugby Club’s hopes of making this year’s Valke Peregrine League play-offs took a setback when they went down 30-15 to North-West University in an away clash on June 23.

It was against the same opponents on May 19 when the Owls looked to kick-start their campaign with a thumping 46-12 win at Prince George Park following a tough start to the season.

Although the path to the knockouts is still open, it’s just become bumpier for Francois Erasmus’ men with Vereeniging and Brakpan still awaiting on their fixture list.

Asked to explain the potentially costing loss, stalwart lock forward Willem Botes, who was recently elected as the team’s new captain, said: “I think the guys thought that we would just be going to collect the points like we did in the previous game against them.

“They proved that a home ground advantage and right attitude, makes a difference in a game.”

Elsewhere, both the Owls’ second and u-21 sides lost by identical scorelines, going down 28-7 respectively.
