Mixed martial artist Oosthuizen eyes notching up second EFC win

His second fight is scheduled at bantamweight.

Pitbull Dojo Boksburg mixed martial artist Billy Oosthuizen will be looking to make it two EFC wins on the trot when he meets Jasen ‘Money’ van der Merwe at EFC 71 at Carnival City on Saturday (June 23).

The 23-year-old, five years his opponent’s junior, says he wants to continue giving his followers their money’s worth as he looks to impress his EFC suitors into his second fight of his new six-fight contract.

“I feel like I had made a point at EFC 69 and I have to live up to it so I want to give my fans what they pay to see, and that is good fights.”

Oosthuizen has made it a habit to finish off his opponents in the opening round and it was no different at EFC 69, also at Carnival City, when he knocked out Pieter de Klerk a minute and 29 seconds into the first round.

It was a performance which also earned him a performance bonus.

He comes in with a height and reach advantage against van der Merwe, who stands 1.69m with a reach of 176cm, compared to Oosthuizen’s 177m and 181cm.

But van der Merwe is on the money on the experience side of things, with a record of 1-5-0 compared to Oosthuizen’s 1-0-0.

Elsewhere, the event will be headlined by two mouth-watering clashes as heavyweight champion Andrew ‘One Gear’ van Zyl (19-3-0) puts his title on the line against light heavyweight champ Dalcha Lungiambula (8-1-0).

The pre-main event will see flyweight champion Nkazimulo Zulu (8-2-1) defend his gold against nippy and deserving challenger Bokang Masunyane.
