Centurion ease past East Rand United

United have now re-focused their attention to the Valke Peregrine League where they’ve had a lot more joy.

Centurion Rugby Club beat East Rand United 55-19 in Centurion in what was United’s ultimate match in the Carlton League on June 9.

All of United’s consolation tries came from their backline as Leon ‘Sweef’ Potgieter, Jackie Jonkers and kicker Cameron Rooi crossed the line.

Rooi also added two conversions to his personal points tally.

The half-time score in the affair was 33-7 to the hosts.

When asked to give an overview of his side’s overall campaign in the league, United coach Stephan Nel said: “It was quite a difficult league to go into. We went in there and we learnt.

“It’s not easy to play against these guys – the likes of QBR, Tukkies and Centurion. They are very good teams and you could see how behind us Valke teams are to the Blue Bulls Union.

“Next year we must grow and you come back onto the pitch better. That’s what rugby is all about.”

East Rand United hosted Vereeniging on Youth Day at their ‘Graveyard’ home ground.
