Karting ace Jayden redeems himself in Pretoria

The young driver is hoping his streak of bad luck has finally come to an end.

Jayden Els was delighted to come out on top of a titanic round three of the Northern Regions’ Rotax Junior Max karting duel at Zwartkops on May 19.

The former world Mini Max champion overcame the odds to win the final race to take overall honours for the day.

“We had good pace and I qualified on pole position,” said the young driver.

“The race one was a close battle with a bit of bumping and barging with Daniele Patrizi in the last lap, which cost us both a position, but I still managed to bring it home to come in fourth.

“I managed to fight to the front in race three, but my exhaust spring broke after I’d passed Aqil Alibhai for the lead.

“That caused the kart to lose a bit of power and I fell back to fifth, but last lap action again between Aqil and Kwanda Mokoena saw us up to third.

“The final was my most rewarding race. I took the lead in turn two and stayed in front for twenty laps with Daniele keeping me honest all the way. I kept it together and won the race to take the overall win for the day.

“Special thanks to my dad and my team and to our sponsors, King Price. Now for round four and the African Open at the end of June and the opportunity to win a ticket back to the Rotax Max Grand Finals.”
