Blues finally on the log with first point of the season

The Blues have endured trying times since the kick-off of the current campaign – as positive results continuously eluded them, with a lack of goals being one of their main problems.

The Boksburg Football Club earned their first point of the season with a dramatic come-from-behind three-all draw with Sporting Football Club on May 19.

The Eastern Super League clash took place at the Boksburg City Stadium.

The Blues have so far shown signs of life in front of goals against league pacesetters Randburg coming into the sporting clash and despite going down 4-2, coach Ernest Seforo remained upbeat, indicating his side had shown signs of a turnaround.

Seforo’s side went on to back their coach’s words against Sporting as they netted five times in two games to earn their first point on the log.

Seforo said: “We’re working hard on finishing our opportunities in front of goal and it’s getting better. We’ve also been working more on set-pieces, how to play different formations when we’re defending and attacking.”

Perhaps more encouraging for Seforo is the fighting spirit his Blues side showed, as they seemed to be heading for yet another loss.

Sporting stretched their lead to 3-1 midway through the second-half after taking a 2-1 lead going into the half-time break.

But attacking midfielder Sifiso Nkwanyana and fellow forward Lwazi Stuurman had other ideas. The former reduced his side’s deficit to 3-2 before Stuurman frustrated the visitors with an equalising goal in the dying minutes of the game.

“It was a miracle,” added Seforo.

“We equalised one minute from time. We’re not there yet, I did explain that our transition phase will almost take the whole season but we’re getting there.”

Defender Kagiso Seforo, a son to the coach, scored a peach from a dead ball situation to register his side’s first goal.

Elsewhere, the Blues’ reserve side cruised past Sporting’s reserves with a 4-1 win in the day’s early kick-off.

The half-time score was 2-1 to the Blues.

Man of the moment Mphethe Moletsane netted a hat-trick in addition to Kgomotso Nkwana’s goal.
