Kempton Park powers to Eastern Cricket title

Northerns posted 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs before the champions stormed back to register 284/6 inside 46 overs.

The Kempton Park Premier League XI has completed what has been an outstanding season for the club when they beat Premier League rivals Benoni Northerns in the final to be crowned the 2017/18 champions.

Victorious captain Johan Fourie won the toss over his opposite Kurt Francis and opted to bowl before his star-studded batting line-up responded in emphatic fashion to lead the log leaders to an impressive four-wicket win at Willowmoore Park.

The win also ensured that the title remains in Kempton and is the club’s third in a row. In the bigger picture, it’s the club’s 11th Premier League crown in 13 years.

Credit must be given to this year’s runners-up who made the final live up to its billing by showing the kind of fighting spirit which took the full-strength, star-studded champions all the way.

The champions summoned their big guns for this one, such is the respect showed to the opposition; and rightly so because like Northerns proved – this one could’ve gone either way.

Their line-up included six provincial cricket stars including Wesley Marshall, whose classical knock of 95 emerged as the day’s highest.
