United get some Carlton League respite

With the Peregrine League having officially kicked-off, United are expected to take a long break from the Carlton League with their next fixture scheduled for May 12 against Tuks in Reiger Park.

A makeshift East Rand United earned a rare victory in what has been a tough Carlton League campaign.

Stephan Nel’s men have been receivers of blowout scores in recent weeks in the tournament and the 29-19 victory over Centurion in Reiger Park on April 7 was surely welcomed by Nel and his troops.

Having to deal with going into half-time 12-5 and the sin-binning of lock Jacques van Tonder, United showed grit to overturn the deficit with a total four tries.

Speedster Leon Potgieter touched down twice for the hosts while fullback Juan Botha and team incumbent kicker Cameron Rooi added one apiece.

Rooi also added three conversions and a single penalty to seal the win.

United also outscored the visiting Centurion four tries to three.

Scorers: East Rand United: Tries – Leon Potgieter (2), Juan Botha, Cameron Rooi. Conversions – Cameron Rooi (3). Penalties – Cameron Rooi.
