Boksburg u-17s win FC Porto Tournament

It was the first time the Blues participate in the traditional annual football jamboree which is always held at Reiger Park’s home - WJ Clement Stadium.

Two second-half goals by Eli Holster and Lwazi Dlamini helped Boksburg to a 2-0 victory over Tuks in the FC Porto Easter Tournament on April 2.

Following a relatively quiet opening half which saw little action in front of the team’s respective goal-posts, the Blues came out a different unit in the latter stanza.

Holster opened the scoring for Ernest Seforo’s outfit before Dlamini put the result beyond doubt to leave Boksburg unbeaten at the four-day event.

The tournament saw the u-17 division divided into four groups of three with winners from the respective groups earning a spot in the semi-finals which were played in the early hours of the final day.

The Blues were pitted alongside Khumalo FC from Ramaphosa Reiger Park outfit Stirtonville FC. They began their road to victory in rather odd fashion on March 30 when their clash was adjudged a walkover and was handed three points and two goals after Stirtonville management staff arrived late for kick-off.

The Blues’ second round-robin match saw them defeat Khumalo FC 2-0 thanks to a Holster brace before their bye on Sunday.

They met Sibiya FC in the Monday morning semi-final before booking their spot in the final with a 1-0 win.

Tuks beat Sun United to put themselves on a collision course with Seforo’s men.

Holster finished as the Blues’ top goalscorer with three goals.

Seforo said: “The level of competition was good; it was good preparation for the season. It was a nice tournament and we really enjoyed ourselves.”
