Kempton set to play in cricket final

Home side CBC Old Boys finished in sixth position with 34 points. -

Kempton Park Cricket Club claimed an impressive victory over league rivals Benoni Northerns to finish as the Premier League’s top team on the 2017/18 log table.

Kempton claimed a four-wicket bonus-point win in Northerns’ own backyard on Sunday, March 25 to remove all doubt that they are tops in Eastern club cricket.

Both teams had all to play for because the number one spot, as well as the automatic qualification for the April 8 final, was on the line.

Kempton led the log with 72 points after coming into the fixture with second-placed Northerns trailing by just three points. A victory for the home side would’ve seen them overtake the pacesetters on the very last day.

Not all is lost for Benoni captain Kurt Francis and Co, however, as they still have a chance to have another go at Kempton in the Sunday final should they win the semi-final against third-placed Alberton on Saturday (April 7).
