CBC end losing streak against Tembisa

CBC surpassed the set target with 15 overs to spare.

CBC Old Boys’ Premier XI ended a lengthy barren run with a much-needed six-wicket bonus-point victory in their Premier League encounter with Tembisa at Willowmoore on March 11.

Tembisa, who use the ground for their home games, conjured up a defendable total of 170. They were lead by Thulani Tembela, who notched a half-century before ending on 66.

But, unfortunately for the hosts, they ended up having to watch the wounded visitors storm back before overhauling the target with more than 15 overs to spare.

Old Boys skipper Casey Arnold said: “Just happy to get the win and relieved the guys haven’t given up and we have stuck with it. If we win our last couple games, we can come fifth in the log which would be good for a building team.”

A reproduction of this performance is almost non-negotiable for the Boksburg outfit if they are to win their remaining games with two tough games next-in-line – starting with a home clash against Benoni Northerns this Sunday (March 25) before welcoming Actonville next Sunday (April 8).

Old Boys’ middle order pair Calvin Sofianos and Craig Parker saw their team through in the second innings as they finished unbeaten with 47 and 19 respectively.

That arrived after outstanding innings with the bat by Old Boys stalwart Dylan Bennie, who produced his own half ton before ending on 63 to trigger a much-improved showing with the bat by Arnold and co.

Old Boys quattro Willie Bernhardt, Tyrone Cameron, Mpho Nzimande and Arnold took a brace of wickets apiece.

Tembisa’s opening batsman Enock Makamo also took a deuce with the leather.
