Jayden Snyman was the top scorer for CBC Old Boys in the side’s defeat to Alberton in their Premier League clash on February 25.
It was a disastrous start for CBC as all of Mark Pearce, Sherwin Pillay, skipper Casey Arnold and wicket-keeper Dylan Bennie scored a meagre 31 runs between them.
The home side never really got going and Alberton wouldn’t allow them.
The visitors’ JC Maritz was the top beneficiary to CBC’s struggles with form – with the opening batsman taking 3/12 in his 10 overs of bowling – including a damaging five maidens.
Maritz’ fellow opener AD Gagiano did the most damage to CBC’s minor hopes as he took an impressive 2/19; one before all but winning the match for his side with his half ton.
Ryan Cartwright, who ended the match not out on 12 runs alongside Darryl Carmody, took 2/ 4; one inside eight overs to help limit the hapless hosts to an uncomfortable 123.
Carmody finished 15 not-out as the visitors walked away with a valuable bonus point.
When the Advertiser sought the reasons behind the local side’s recent poor results, captain Arnold commented: “We’re struggling with our batting and struggling with our form, but 123 was a difficult wicket. We made life tough for them with the team being six down but just not enough runs on the board.
“I think 180 was a winning score and the boys fought hard but there was just not enough application with the batting.
“The boys tried hard and it would’ve been a great win but, unfortunately, we’re just low on confidence at the moment.”
The home side will look to correct all their wrongs in their next assignment: a trip to face Tembisa this Sunday (March 11) at Sahara Willowmoore Park. – @SabeloBoksburg
