St Dominic’s star swimmer Ashleigh Munks was recently selected to compete in the South African Open Water National Championships, which will take place in Jeffrey’s Bay this weekend (March 3 and 4).
The Grade 11 learner was required to swim two 5km distances in under one hour and 25 minutes to qualify for the five-kilometre race. She was also required to swim three 3km distances in 40 minutes to qualify for the three-kilometre race.
She qualified for both events.

2014 – Awarded Top Swimmer.
2015 – Victrix Ludorum.
2017 – Most Valuable Senior Swimmer.
2018 – Top Performer in her age group and grade.
2018 – Swimming vice-captain.
• External swimming
2015 – Victrix Ludorum winner for u-16 at Eastern Gauteng Champs; selected for skills development squad (SDS) for Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA).
2016 – Competed at the small districts gala representing EGA; broke the 200m Freestyle EGA record; top performer at level 3 for EGA; represented South Africa at the Cana Zone IV in Mauritius and won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
2017 – Top Performer at level 3 for EGA.
2018 – Qualified for the South African Junior Youth Nationals (SANJ) in Durban to be held from March 21 – 25.
• Open water swimming achievements
2014 – Top 50 at the Midmar Mile.
2015 – Top 10 at the Midmar Mile.
2016 – Top 50 at the Midmar Mile; Top Eastern Gauteng Performer at Gauteng Open Water Championships; competed in the 3km and 5km events at Open Water Nationals in Hermanus, Cape Town.
2017 – Third in 15-16 category for the 3km at the Open Water Nationals in Jeffreys Bay.
2018 – First place at the Gauteng Open Water Champs in the 3km for EGA; second place at the Gauteng Open Water Champs in the 5km for EGA.
