Cricketing masterclass from Boksburg

The Boksburg XI crushed the visitors by 183 runs at their iconic Prince George Park home in a statement-making performance.

Boksburg Cricket Club couldn’t have asked for a better start to their Premier League B campaign during their opening match against KwaThema on Sunday, February 18.

“We have a point to prove every week,” said captain Adam Forbes, who led from the front with 60 runs on the board.

“We got points deducted from us because of a filing error, which means we are playing bottom eight, so we are coming out guns blazing.”

Coming out guns blazing is exactly what the hosts did, maximising their 50 overs with a 247/9 blitz after being sent in to bat first.

A number of Boksburg players notched up double-digit scores to pile the misery on KwaThema. Apart from the skipper, Brayden Schaper was another significant contributor with the bat, firing 39 runs, before the Hollard brothers combined for a last stand.

Jordan Hollard finished with an unbeaten 55, while sibling Matthew ended with an undefeated 11.

Boksburg’s bowlers were equal to their batting teammates in the second innings, their performance completing a collective cricket lesson.

KwaThema were bowled out for 64 in 18 overs with Boksburg’s Nathan Kruger emerging as the top beneficiary.

Kruger all but ended the visitors’ hopes when he dismissed half of KwaThema’s batting order to claim a brilliant 5/13 including three maidens in just seven overs.

Jordan also chipped in with the leather, taking 2/8 in two overs.
