Lakeside athletes triumph at the inter-primary

The school scooped 31 gold, 19 silver and 26 bronze medals on its way to lifting the trophy.

Lakeside Primary School’s athletics team won the inter-primary, recently held at Dr EG Jansen, for the second consecutive year, beating rivals Parkdene, Parkrand, Freeway Park and Summerfields primary schools.

The victory qualified the Lakeside athletics team to go through to the Greater Boksburg championship, where they will compete against about 40 primary schools, at Herman Immelman Stadium in Germiston on Friday (February 16).

The team members said they are confident that they will achieve first place and advance to the next level of the competition, which will involve teams from other Ekurhuleni towns, including Kempton Park and Germiston.

From there, the winner will advance to the district championship, where the winning school will qualify to go to the provincial championship.

Lakeside Primary School principal Craig Jansen said his team has a proud history in athletics competitions and their recent victory was just another achievement to be proud of.

He said the team made the school management so proud that they even organised a celebration event to be held at the Reiger Park swimming pool.

“We are really looking forward to participating in the national competition in Cape Town,” said Jansen.

“We also appreciate the continuous support we receive from parents, the SGB and other stakeholders.” -@MthuphaFanie
