New look Redinals pummel Palm Ridge

Following a slow start to the season, the Redinals have since impressed

The Redinals subjected Palm Ridge to a crushing 22-3 loss in their u-15 league encounter at Benoni Northerns on February 11.

Incidentally, the Redinals’ last loss was against Palm Ridge in the reverse fixture between the two sides – that game ending 12-7 where the Redinals were experiencing teething problems in the early stages of the season – losing their first four games.

Since then, the Redinals have conjured up a winning streak, with the latest blowout of Ridge being their sixth win in a row.

The Redinals is a u-15 side made of players from Boksburg Cardinals and Kempton Park Red Socks.

Following an agreement from both camps at the beginning of the season last October, the two sides now play as one during games due to a lack of players from both camps.

During training, both camps train separately, which sees the Red Socks train in Kempton Park and the Cardinals in Boksburg.

The merger has only been made in the u-15 age group.

Asked for his thoughts following his side’s crushing win over Palm Ridge’s u-15 outfit, Redinals coach Joe Jooste was modest.

“Palm Ridge has been battling due to not having proper coaching,” said Jooste.

Redinals had a bad start to the league where we lost our first four games. Our last game we lost was to Palm Ridge but since then we have won the next five games in a row.”

Other scores

The Boksburg Cardinals’ u-9 and u-12 teams were also in action on the day against Palm Ridge. The u-12s went down 5-7 to Ridge. Scores for u-9s aren’t kept track of.
