Gauteng North dominates at jukskei provincials held in Boksburg

The tournament was used as one of the qualifiers for the South African Championships which will be held in the hub of South African jukskei, Kroonstad, between March 31 and April 5.

Gauteng North had a field day during the Gauteng Senior Open Championships as both the men’s and women’s teams displayed why they should be tipped as strong favourites come the South African Championships.

Both their A1 teams, the most competitive category, came away as winners with their men’s side enjoying a comprehensive triumph at the tournament, held at the Boksburg Jukskei Club, in Boksburg East, on February 3.

The men’s team finished with a grand total of 45.5 points, a distant first ahead of runners-up North West, who finished with 29 points.

It was closer in the A1 ladies, with Limpopo settling for second with 37.5 to Gauteng North’s 39.

Women A1 winners from left: Gerty Vorster, Tarina-Marie Marais, Wilma Nel and Elna van den Berg.

The next round of qualifiers will also be held in Kroonstad on March 3.

Meanwhile, Gauteng East salvaged some pride in the mixed categories – taking honours in the mixed one, two and four categories. The Eastern team finished as runners-up to Gauteng North in the mixed three categories.

Perhaps the Gauteng dominance came as little surprise with the smallest province in the nation boasting four district sides out of the four provinces that competed.

The other provinces that completed the competing teams were Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North-West.

Too good. Men’s A1 winners from left: Tjaard Booyens, Anton de Kock, Dewet Allers and Thomas Venter.
