Local young karting sensation bags another title

Parkrand karting sensation Jayden Els (13) was crowned the Northern Region Junior Max champion following yet another impressive year on the circuit.

The regional championships work on a points system and ran over eight races between February and November.

The Laerskool Baanbreker pupil rounded off his successful year at the Laserfiche Raceway in Vereeniging.

This adds to his already impressive kart racing résumé, which includes the world title he won in Italy last year in the Rotax Mini Max Grand Finale.

The starlet has since ascended to the Junior Max Class to challenge himself, which means better and older drivers and a bigger and more powerful kart.

Asked what his latest achievement means to him, the Helpmekaar Kollege-bound driver said: “Even if you are out of your league and you are consistent in what you do, you can still reach your goals and achieve.”

According to the Motorsport Media website, Els added: “I would like to thank Leeroy Poulter and Xtreme team as well as Mark Williams from GMP for all the effort they put in to help us win. Also special thanks to Ed Murray Racing and CRG for the support, and most of all to my dad who has made it possible for me to race in the first place.”

Els also took part in the South African Championships in the Junior Max Class and finished fifth overall. Not a bad placing, considering that all the drivers who finished ahead of him are all in high school already. – @SabeloBoksburg
