Spurs batting attack floors CBC

A brilliant knock of 73 by Matthew Corrin helped Actonville Spurs to a 55-run home win in a high-scoring match-up against CBC Old Boys at Lords on November 19.

There was another big hitter for the hosts on the day, Mekyle Pillay, who concluded his side’s batting innings alongside Justin Brink.

Both finished with unbeaten scores of 66 and 24 respectively as the home XI propelled its total to 245/ 7 in its allotted 50 overs.

Spurs’ batting innings weren’t as bright as their total suggests though; it was until Corrin’s introduction to the crease when they began to slowly build pressure on the scoreboard following a good start by the visitors.

Top order quartet of Yusuf Bulbulia, Ahmed Solojee, Imraan Manack and CJ van der Walt could only manage 57 runs between before their big hitters turned the tide back into their favour.

The visitors made a solid start to their quest to overhaul the hosts target with Mark Pearse and wicket-keeper Dylan Bennie at the helm.

They posted 60 runs between them and needed their teammates to increase the momentum but it wasn’t to be as the visitors missed a solid partnership and at least one big hitter to boost their chances.

Old Boys captain Casey Arnold, who posted 23 runs, said: “We just can’t seem to get going. We had them on the ropes and we just couldn’t put the nail in the coffin.

“We are still learning about each other, it takes time.”

The home side were also impressive with the maroon leather producing two hat-tricks.

Van der Walt proved to be a thorn to the visitors – finishing with 3/25 and two maidens in his 10 overs of delivering. He was joined by teammate Shaffiqe Khan in the hat-trick club with his 3/30.
