Watch: ‘Vinnige’ Fanie talks cricket with Woodlands learners

Petrus Stephanus de Villiers, better known as 'Vinnige' Fanie to cricket fans, took some time out of his busy schedule to motivate Woodlands International College learners about the game of cricket on Friday, September 15.

De Villiers’ visit formed part of the school’s Introduction to Cricket afternoon to promote the sport at the school.

While cricket talk dominated de Villiers’ soliloquy, he also emphasised that the kind of attitude and work needed to improve the students’ cricket skills, apply to every other sport.

“Let’s create systems, let’s create an environment for excellence; let’s create an environment to take cricket to the next level,” said the fast-medium bowler as part of his talk to the learners.

The day also included a cricket clinic for students run by senior Titans coach Cobus Pienaar in conjunction with the school’s cricket coaches.

De Villiers played 18 tests and 83 one-day internationals for South Africa as a bowler and right-hand batsman, from 1992 to 1998.
