Blues run riot in last game

The Boksburg Football Club finally gave their fans something to cheer about with a 7-3 thumping of a hapless Germiston side at the Boksburg City Stadium on September 16.

This was the Blues’ first league win in over 900 minutes of football, with their last victory incidentally coming against Germiston in a 4-1 win on June 3.

The Blues scored three and four goals on either side of the half-time break in the ELFA Super League last round clash, a result of champagne football anchored by solid defence, especially in the first-half and a ruthless attack.

U-15 coach, Ernest Seforo was the stand-in coach for incumbent trainer Melvin Kruger, who was absent.

Asked for his thoughts on the performance and the result, Seforo said: “The performance was top class. I couldn’t ask for more,” enthused the coach.

“The attitude at training has been improving. I’ve emphasised that they must just go out there and play.”

The home side made their intentions clear early on with an all-out attack game and it paid dividends inside 10 minutes as forward Kagisano ‘Sgora’ Seforo rounded-off a delicious low cross from Sibusiso Nkwanyana.

A side-line incident threatened the Blues’ bright start as coach Seforo was red-carded for questioning one of the linemen’s fitness levels. Seforo’s troops, however, were not phased and apparently hell-bent on finishing their campaign by collecting maximum points.

Sifiso Nkwanyana doubled the lead moments later with a powerful header from a pinpoint delivery, giving Germiston’s goalkeeper Nayhayo Honore no chance.

It was all Boksburg in the first, with Germiston at times forced to play football in their own half for extended periods.

Boksburg captain, Dylan Africa, emphasised his side’s dominance with the third as the hosts were getting out of sight. It will go down as one of the easiest goals in the skipper’s career, with his tap-in in front of goal rewarding some neat interchange passing inside the visitors’ box.

The balance of play after the break was similar despite the Blues allowing three goals past goalkeeper Tyrone Landman, who found himself on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.
