Goalkeeper injury mars league match

Boksburg Football Club’s u-15 goalkeeper Thabang Dolo lost his teeth following a collision with a Sandton FC player in their away league encounter on Sunday, August 27.

The stopper was rushed to Sunward Park Hospital 10 minutes into the second half with the score at 3-1 in favour of the hosts, resulting in a lengthy stoppage.

Sandton went on to win the match 6-1.

Half-time score was 3-0 before the Blues showed signs of a second stanza rally with central defender Kgomotso pulling a goal back before the game-changing incident.

Dolo’s collision was the ultimate mishap for The Blues as they had already lost striker Rudean Peters and defender Jordan Cooper to ankle injuries in the first half.

There would be more bad news for coach Ernest Seforo in the second half as all of Happy Matapa, Jason de Koker, Sipho Matlhare, Lesedi Mokoena, and Lerato Mosia joined the casualties. It forced Seforo, who had used all of his substitutions, to field and finish the game with a makeshift team of eight players.

“The boys came back very strong in the second half and we scored a goal but the injury changed everything. I had to take one of my defenders and make him a ‘keeper’,” said Seforo.

“It was a very difficult situation for me. I lost concentration on the game and focused more on our injured goalkeeper. The boys also lost total concentration.

“I still salute my boys for not giving up and their fighting spirit. They stayed as a team after the game. Many thanks to the parents, team management and players.”

Left-back Bongani Nkosi replaced Dolo between the posts.
