Six-time Comrades finisher in search of sponsorship
Six-time Comrades Marathon finisher and East Rand Mall car guard Jabulani Mtshweni is in search of sponsorship to better his chances of success in his career as a marathon runner.
Apart from the Comrades, Mtshweni also has other multiple marathon races under his belt, such as the 42km Mandela Day Marathon in KwaZulu-Natal which he recently took part in.
Quizzed by the Advertiser on how sponsors will aid his career, the Tsakane resident responded: “I need sponsorship for running gear and for joining a proper gym so I can do a bit of weightlifting for some strength.
“Travelling around the country to participate in different marathons is also an issue because it involves travelling costs. I mostly rely on donations.”
Mtshweni joined the sport in 2012 after closing the ‘being a boxer’ chapter of his life. He’s a former amateur boxer and a coach whose career spanned from 1988 to 2012 before a friend lured him to athletics.
His best Comrades Marathon performance was the 2016 ‘down run’ from Pietermaritzburg to Durban which saw him clock nine hours and thirty-one minutes.
Mtshweni has been a car guard at the East Rand Mall since 1998.
