EG Jansen quartet instrumental in Falcons winning Grant Khomo tournament

Four boys from the u-16 rugby team from Hoërskool EG Jansen were chosen to represent the Falcons at the yearly Grant Khomo provincial tournament.

The 2017 edition of the annual rugby festival took place at Grey College, in Bloemfontein, during the second week of the school holidays last month.

The Grant Khomo is similar to Craven Week, except that it caters only for u-16s.

Each team played three games during the tournament. The Falcons lost their opening game against the Limpopo Blue Bulls. They then moved on to play the Leopards from the North-West province and won the game 28-10.

The last day’s game was against Eastern Province and they also won this match 36-20.

There was a cherry on top of the victory with captain Franco Enslin earning the Man of the Match award for both wins.

The team was selected after a few weeks of trials.

The team then prepared themselves by playing several friendly matches in the weeks leading up to the tournament which saw them win three of the four matches they played.

Twenty teams from around the country played in the tournament. It featured the likes of Western Province with two teams, KZN, SWD, Eastern Cape, Border and Free State – to list a few.

Other Gauteng teams included the likes of the mighty Lions and the Bulls. Zimbabwe and Namibia also had teams that participated. – @SabeloBoksburg
