Blues lose seven-goal humdinger

It was a case of close but yet so far for the Boksburg Football Club when they went down 4-3 at Highlands Park on Thursday, July 20.

The hosts rattled the Blues to take a seemingly unassailable 4-0 half-time lead to all but end the game as a contest and hand the Boksburg Stadium outfit their fifth loss in succession.

Boksburg, though, who were without the calming presence of team coach Melvin Kruger, due to other commitments the trainer had to adhere to, rallied back in the latter half.

Having being forced to start the game with an unorthodox centre back combination due to injury, which the hosts took full advantage of, the Blues made a few tactical tweaks to their defence leading into the half-time break, which sparked the incomplete comeback.

Kagiso Seforo, who partnered Balson Poopebi in the heart of the defence, was moved to the wing to make space for Tebogo Mokobane.

It’s seemed a tad unusual in recent weeks when the Blues’ score sheet missed the names of forwards Kagisano Seforo, Kagiso’s twin brother, and to a lesser extent, Sibusiso Nkwanyana.

Such has been the form the duo has been in.

And the status quo was kept intact at Highlands as Kagisano, Nkwanyana and Tebogo Modulane brought the game back to life.

“Every day and every week comes with different issues,” lamented Blues player-coach Khaya Phungwayo when quizzed on the team’s losing streak.

“Our centre backs were new guys and Highlands took advantage and scored all of their first four goals in the first half.

“But we made changes just before half-time, which changed the game for us. It was a game of two halves – the first belonged to them and the second to us.” – @SabeloBoksburg
