Local club shines at South African Dance Institute’s annual dance awards

Thirty four dancers from Sunward Park-based Studio 7 competed at the South African Dance Institute's (SADI) annual dance awards held in Centurion.

Dancers competed in solo, duets, trios, quartets and bigger groups. dancing modern jazz, disco jazz contemporary and hip hop.

Sound of Silence – Best Senior Group trophy winners.

Studio 7 obtained the following results for groups and duets: three platinums (90 per cent to 100 per cent), seven golds (80 per cent to 89 per cent) and one high silver (75 per cent to79 per cent).

One senior contemporary group ‘The Sound of Silence’ received the highest score ever of 95 per cent at the SADI awards. This group also received the floating trophy for the Best Senior Group.

‘Faded’ – Best Teen Group trophy winners.

Other trophies awarded to Studio7 dancers were for the Best Teen Group performing a routine ‘Faded’ (disco jazz group).

The junior modern squad group won the junior squad section for 2017.

For solos, Jané van Niekerk was awarded the floating trophy for The Most Promising Dancer and Eshana Pillay was awarded The Best Teen Solo floating trophy.

During the awards, the judges also identified dancers that have the potential to represent the SADI team for next year’s Dubai global tour.

In total, 20 dancers from Studio 7 were chosen to be part of the tour.

They are Jané van Niekerk, Eshana Pillay, Roxanne and Jade Enslin, Anke Smit, Enja Pistoiruis, Nerissa de Beer, Ta’Leah Bradbury, Natasha Brown, Katie O’Hara, Taylor Stanton, Jocelyn Goode, Mariska Zocher, Casey Venter, Courtney Jarvis, Antelle Myers, Nicole Nel, Simoné Dreyer, Maruzé Schmiulian and Chenelle Nordeje.
