Two champions from different divisions to clash at EFC 62

It’s confirmed. The biggest fight in EFC Africa history is going to happen.

For the first time, two champions from two different divisions are scheduled to collide at EFC 62.

EFC middleweight champion Yannick Bahati will put his title on the line when he faces the EFC welterweight champ Dricus du Plessis at Carnival City on August 19.

Du Plessis first signed with EFC over four years ago but always had his eyes firmly set on claiming gold as the youngest in history.

It didn’t take long for his gutsy performances to make him hard to ignore on his way to the top. He amassed a 4-0 record that earned him a middleweight title shot against Garreth McLellan.

Many said it was too soon for the young Pretoria powerhouse and they were proven right. Du Plessis lost his first and only fight against the then UFC-bound McLellan.

It was a career-defining moment for Du Plessis, and one that saw him get better and grow from strength-to-strength. He has since gone on to capture the welterweight title and has defended it multiple times – and convincingly.

He now has his sights firmly set on becoming EFC’s first two-division champion, but with that he has found the formidable Englishman standing in his way.

Since his last fight in EFC, the British behemoth Bahati has claimed the BAMMA middleweight world title and is dead set on defending both.

It is no secret that these two elite athletes hold little but disdain for each other.

They have often had verbal jousts over social media and at press conferences and have nearly come to blows backstage numerous times.

This only adds fuel to the fire.

Talk is over and just who will walk away holding two belts on August 19 remains to be seen. – @SabeloBoksburg
