Blues wreck United FC to claim championship

The Boksburg Football Club was crowned champions of the closed section of the recent annual Easter football tournament held at Reiger Park.

The Blues came away with a convincing 3-1 victory over United FC in the final.

It was a very impressive overall showing by Melvin Kruger’s men, who just drew once on their way to the trophy.

They opened their campaign with two wins and a stalemate, claiming two 1-0 wins against Benfica and Sporting Lyon respectively and drawing 2-all with Samba Boys during the round robin stage.

Cometh the hour, cometh the team as the Boksburg outfit seemed to have stepped it up a notch as the tournament entered the business end.

They went on to score eight goals in the play-off stages compared to the four they netted during the round robin stage, knocking off Leondale FC in the quarters and Bronco FC in the semis.

Meanwhile, Windmill Park outfit Estate FC took part in the open section and were knocked out in the first round after drawing against Wattville FC, having needed a win.

Eden Park Callies were crowned champions of the open section.
