Take note of road closures for the Emperors Palace Classic Cycle Race

The Emperors Palace Classic mountain bike and road races take place on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23.

The races will starts and finish at the Emperors Palace casino.

The EMPD said that due to the huge number of cyclists who will take part in the events, there will be traffic restrictions in the area.

EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago said that on Saturday, April 22 Emperors Palace Classic 25km and 50km mountain bike races will start at 8am and there will be traffic restrictions on Jones Street, Griffiths Street and Yaldwin Road.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

On Sunday, April 23 Emperors Classic 48km and 98km road races will start at 6.15am.

Kgasago said there will be a road closure on Jones Street from 5am to 3pm.

Furthermore, there will be road closure on the outgoing stretch from Rondebult Road to Carnival City on the R554 – both lanes eastbound towards Carnival City Casino – from 5am until 10am.

Right hand lanes on coming back westbound towards Alberton will be split for traffic to contra flow.

Traffic restrictions will also apply to Boundary Roads towards Heidleburg, Fordsick Road and roads around the Emperors Palace casino.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
