Young coach needs support to obtain UEFA B licence

Sunward Tigers FC coach Alessandro Vorster has been provisionally accepted to take part in a football coaching course to complete his UEFA B licence

The course takes place between May 18 and June 31, in Scotland, and Vorster, who will need about R57 000 for the trip, is pleading to the community to help him make his dream come true.

Upfront payment no later than May 10 is required to secure his place on the course.

“I’ve got a huge passion for football,” he said.

“I have been accepted into the UEFA B coaching course but trying to achieve this goal on a teacher’s salary is nearly impossible. Please help me so that I may help many more youths in my community,” said the 22-year-old Unisa student, who plies his teaching trade as a science educator at Parkdene Primary School.

The former Boksburg High School learner took his first big leap towards coaching professionally last year when he was accepted to complete a Scottish FA course where he did his FA 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and UEFA C licence.

Out of the 20 applicants who were accepted to complete the course, Vorster was one of eight coaches who were successful.

Should his Scotland dream come true and he passes, holding a UEFA B at the age of 22 will make him the youngest coach in Africa to hold this licence.

It will also leave him one step away from acquiring his UEFA A licence, and two steps away from the UEFA Pro licence, which is the highest coaching certification held by the biggest coaching brains in world football, including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

In 2015, Vorster invited by the KNBV Royal Dutch Football Association, along with 29 other coaches from around the globe, to a coaching seminar where he shadowed and coached alongside the managers of teams such as Feyenoord, Ajax and the Dutch national team.

Despite being the youngest only coach who had not yet coached professionally out of the total 30 who were invited to the seminar, Vorster was ranked fourth at the end of the seminar.

“I believe that the success of South African soccer rests in the youth and I would like to make use of the skills acquired on my professional coaching journey to develop the young players of our country,” he added.

“To me, it’s not about me, it’s about the kids.”
