Boksburg win Premier Reserve League in style

The Boksburg Cricket Club was crowned champions of the Eastern Cricket Premier Reserve League following a bonus-point eight-wicket win over Avion on Sunday, March 19.

The home side made quick work of the visitors as they bowled them out for 93 inside 28 overs.

In response, captain Adam Forbes led his side to victory inside 18 overs with his unbeaten 47 off 50 balls, making him the Reserve League’s top run scorer with 411 runs.

It was Tyrone Cameron behind the crease, who finished with an unbeaten four from six deliveries as the home side secured the easy win and the championship.

The win sees them promoted back to the Premier League to join the likes of Benoni Northerns, CBC Old Boys and Kempton Park.

Top order batsman Leo Jacobs’ 31 runs saw him finish as his side’s top-scorer with the willow.

Johan Nel (32) and Dylan Pananio (8) were the other contributors to Boksburg’s successful chase down.

In the bowling, Boksburg’s opening bowler Nathan Kruger was the pick of the bowlers with his 10-over spell including 3/25 and three maidens. Debutant Devin McArthur and spin bowler Chris Opperman took two wickets apiece, producing numbers of 2/13 and 2/36; respectively.

Asked about his side’s return to the top flight, Forbes shared his delight.

“I’m extremely happy considering that we’re such a young team and this being our first year in the Premier League. It was our goal to compete and stay in the Premier League and we achieved it so I’m happy,” said the 19-year-old striker.
