Routine 95-run win for Boksburg

The Boksburg Cricket Club claimed an easy 95-run victory over Duduza in an Eastern Cricket Premier League clash at Willowmoore Park on Sunday, February 12.

According to Boksburg chairman/player Bruce Forbes, the visitors were confident despite their relatively low total of 174 after they were sent to bat first.

Forbes, who ended with an unbeaten 29, went on to be spectacularly proven right as the hosts caved in rather shocking fashion.

In a weak chasing attempt, Duduza’s day was summed up by Thapelo Ditle’s 34 runs being his side’s only double-digit score and highest on the afternoon.

A combination of tight bowling and fielding (including three run-outs) by Boksburg proved too much for the hosts – in their own backyard – as they buckled for a lowly and embarrassing 79 after 35 overs.

On a day where runs were hard to come by, Boksburg captain and opener Adam Forbes laid the foundation as he stuck it out long enough for his 53.

An eighth wicket partnership of 65 runs between youngster Matthew Hollard and Bruce put the visitors in good stead.

Nathan Kruger, John Haywood and Hollard led in the bowling front for the PG Park outfit, taking a brace of wickets apiece. They forced Duduza into trouble early on, and the hosts could only manage 23 runs after 17 overs with three wickets lost.

All of Kruger, Haywood and Hollard produced bowling figures of (2/16; 1), (2/5; 4) and (2/9; 2) – a combined effort of just 30 runs conceded between them and seven maidens to help to the successful defence.
