Cricket: CBC dominate Bedfordview

CBC Old Boys gifted themselves with a 158-run bonus point victory over Rowlin Bedfordview in Boksburg on Sunday, December 3.

Despite missing the services of incumbent captain Nicholas Lockyer, who was wrapping up his tertiary exams, the local side was still bolstered by the return of a few stalwarts into the starting XI – led by Wesley Coulentianos.

Having won the toss with CBC stand-in skipper Casey Arnold, Rowlin captain Jason Smith sent the home team in to bat first. Following on the back of a confidence-boosting Boksburg derby win against Boksburg Cricket Club, the home side would make Smith regret his decision.

Their batting innings ended on a healthy 253/7 after the allotted 50 overs.

Arnold led from the front with 75 runs, which was the highest score of the day. Arnold’s fellow top-order batsman, Wickus Germishuizen, also shone with the bat in his knock of 72.

Coulentianos finished nine runs shy of the half-ton mark, with 41.

The writing was on the wall for the visitors, as early as inside the first ten overs. Bedfordview lost their first quintet of batsmen for a combined 21 runs, including two duck dismissals.

The visitors would go on to finish on 95 all-out inside 29 overs – including a damaging three duck dismissals – to hand CBC an easy win in the end.

The win has left CBC on sixth spot on the Eastern Cricket Premier League standings, with one more first round encounter remaining.

Their next fixture is against Duduza at home on January 15. – @SabeloBoksburg
