EFC returns to Carnival City for 2016 hurrah

EFC Africa has pulled out all the stops for its ultimate event, scheduled to take place at Carnival City this Friday, December 9.

The African mixed martial arts company traditionally organises the last show of every year at the entertainment casino and hotel; and this year is no different with EFC 56.

Headlining the final show is a welterweight championship fight, which will see Polish challenger Rafal ‘The Polish Tank’ Haratyk (7-1-2) take on the champion Dricus ‘Stillknocks’ du Plessis (7-1-0).

In one of two supporting main events, the middleweights will go to war as the controversial British champion Yannick Bahati, returns to face the former welterweight champion David Buirski.

The outspoken Bahati has again headlined the build-up narrative.

The England international, who seems to never shy away from the controversial spotlight, is destined to fight against Buirski (8-2-0) at the expected sold-out Big Top Arena – following his latest ordeal, where he insults local MMA fans.

In a video on the EFC Africa website, ‘The Black Mamba’ (6-2-0) is seen uttering what sounded like the F-word directed at South African fans – citing that local fighting aficionados have always been negative towards him.

Whether he’ll finally earn some respect from local MMA fanatics with a win, remains to be seen.

Elsewhere, the pride of the DRC, Igeu Kabesa (7-0-0), has a lot to lose as he puts his featherweight title and undefeated record on the line, in the night’s first title bout against the heavy hands of Hanru Botha (6-3-0).

Meanwhile, the 12-bout card features two fights in the women’s division. In a strawweight face-off, Danella Eliasov will take on debutant Irene Rivera – and the undefeated Shana Power will look to add Jacqueline Trosee’s name to her winning streak, in their flyweight clash. – @SabeloBoksburg
