African Boxing Union title on the line at Christmas Cracker

The impressive Thulani Mbenge will headline the annual Christmas Cracker box-and-dine tournament at Emperors Palace this Thursday (December 1) when he faces Eric Kapia over 10 rounds for the African Boxing Union title.

Doors at the Palace of Dreams’ Centre Court are scheduled to open at 6.30pm with boxing set to begin an hour later.

Mbenge has moved unhindered to a perfect 7-0 record since turning pro – all via knockout – but he could be stretched if Mukadi’s record is anything to go by.

The DRC fighter is 17-0-1 and word in the boxing grapevine suggests that he’s slick and slippery.

Not a lot is known about Mukadi’s ring presence as all of his fights have taken place in the DRC.

Cruiserweight Johnny Muller will make a welcome return to the venue when he fights undefeated Herman Potgieter of the Cape, a youngster looking to make his way in the fight game.

He will need to produce something special against the experienced Muller, who won’t lose any sleep in making the night a very long one for an upstart like Potgieter. They fight over eight rounds.

The tournament is organised by African Ring in line with Golden Gloves.

Other bouts include:

Light heavyweight – 4 rounds: Rowan Campbell vs Gabriel Mngadi

Junior lightweight – 4 rounds: Lucky Mongebane vs Bheki Mhlalangu

Junior middleweight – 4 rounds: Nathan Hammond vs Mandle Mpovu

Welterweight – 4 rounds: Tyler McMutri vs Sidonelo Ndzimande

Junior welterweight – 4 rounds: Jabulani Makhense vs Kalela Kaduma – @SabeloBoksburg
