Coulentianos shines for CBC in thriller

CBC Old Boys opening batsman Wesley Coulentianos scored a century to lead his side to a 20-run win over Actonville Spurs in a high-scoring Premier League affair in Boksburg on Sunday, November 6.

The star striker ended on 135 runs as Old Boys raced to a total of 295/7 after being asked to bat first by Spurs captain Kyle Degambur.

Casey Arnold also put in a telling performance off the bat with his total of 58 while Craig Parker ended his tenure behind the crease unbeaten on 25.

“We’re lucky to have someone like Wes,” said Old Boys captain Nicholas Lockyer.

“He really helped the boys out and it takes away a lot of pressure from myself and the senior players on the side when someone like him plays like that. It was a good overall team performance but, yeah, it was special from Wes.”

Following a slow start in response, which included Spurs duo Michael Enslin and Clayton August who departed for a single run and zilch respectively, the visitors put on a strong finish to scare the home side.

A solid batting performance by middle order quadruple of Ridwaan Daya (40), Mekyle Pillay (63), Justin Brink (58) and Degambur (59) gave Spurs a good chance of spoiling the home side’s admirable performance as they produced 220 runs between them.

Old Boy,s however, capped a great day in the office as they hung on to stop Spurs, who themselves deserve praise for their commendable fightback.

Their batting innings ended on 275/ 7.

Old Boys’ Ruan Liebisch (4/47) and Spurs’ Daya (4/35) led their respective teams in the bowling stakes. –
