The Shalom Rugby Academy is up and running.

Based at Oosrand Secondary School, the academy, which accommodates children from ages seven to 18, is facilitated by respected local rugby coach Derrick Sampson.

The academy is focused on sharpening the skills of interested children and those who aspire to become rugby players.

Training sessions are held on Saturdays, from 9am until noon.

“The goal is to give kids proper skills development; most of them are growing up without this,” explained Sampson.

“We want the boys to excel beyond their expectations. We also want to help historically disadvantaged kids, and everyone is welcome.”

Sampson also said that, although the focus is currently on rugby, the academy will be looking to do skills development in other sports in the near future, especially football, cricket and athletics.

It will also have specific training programmes for different age groups.

Shalom is a registered academy and interested players, or people who seek more information, can contact Sampson on 061 601 0972. – @SabeloBoksburg
