New Carnival City Classic date is a fortnight away

For its 33rd staging, a new date applies to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic and cycling enthusiasts have until Monday October 24 to enter online - its former date was in February.

This ever popular event now starts with an MTB race on Saturday November 5, followed by the usual road race the following day.

Both events start and finish at Carnival City where there’s plenty of secure parking, a welcome selection of restaurants and fast food outlets, plus activities for children.

As this event is held two weeks before the Telkom 94,7 Cycle Challenge, it’s a Cycling South Africa-sanctioned event which attracts thousands of entries every year.

Cyclists can enter online at www.cycleevents.co.za.

Late entries will be taken on the day, but there’ll be a late entry penalty and the riders will be unseeded.

The new Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic promises to be bigger and better than ever: it’ll comprise a 60 and 30km mountain bike race, as well as two short mountain bike races of 12 and 6km.

The Elite and U-23 men, Juniors and Licensed Vets will race over 125km (road race). The customary route for the 103km and 65km road races will remain.

Race organisers receive no financial benefit from this event and all proceeds will go to Rotary Community Projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

“We’re excited to once again support and play host to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race,” says Carnival City’s marketing manager, Michelle Smith.

“This is a popular event in the cycling community and it’s fantastic to see how support for the race grows each year. If you aren’t entering the race, bring your family down to Carnival City to watch the cyclists cross the finish line.”
