Oosterlig head boy included in Aus cricket tournament

Hoërskool Oosterlig head boy Rijnhardt Groenewald has been included to participate at the International Schools Cricket Tournament in Melbourne, Australia in December.

The fast bowler was selected following a notable showing on tour in Pretoria earlier this year.

The trip to down under will suit as a fitting ending to a largely successful sporting year for the spin-turned-fast-bowler.

Apart from the selection, Groenewald also bagged a bronze medal for discus at the South African Athletics Championships at the Free State Stadium earlier this year.

He also starred in shot-put where he just missed the podium by a solo position, finishing fourth.

The Melbourne schools cricket jamboree will run from December 10 to 17.

Groenewald made his bow in the game as a spin bowler in grade six before discovering his fast-bowling prowess.

His point of reference in the gentleman’s game is Dale Steyn, citing the Phalaborwa Express’s fighting instinct and professionalism.

Groenewald, however, who’s also a member of his school’s first cricket team, will unfortunately not be travelling to Australasia, citing the expenses involved in the trip. – @SabeloBoksburg
