Blues survive relegation by skin of their teeth

The Boksburg Football Club ended their disappointing ELFA Super League season with a 4-1 loss to champions Randburg, at the Boksburg City Stadium, on Saturday, September 17.

The half-time score was 2-0 to the visitors.

The lopsided result left the Blues in 14th position, avoiding relegation back to the Premier League, which they so convincingly won last year, by just two points.

The wooden spoon position was taken by Edenvale, while Corinthians finished 15th, just one point below Boksburg.

Randburg, who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession throughout the encounter, extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second-half, before Blues forward Wesley Vollmer pulled one back.

“The boys did well,” commented caretaker coach Melvin Kruger, who’s been in charge of the Blues bench for their last three games.

“The boys really competed nicely under the circumstances.”

The Blues lost 24 outings from their allotted fixtures to finish with 14 points, collected from four wins and two draws.
