Gymnast Kiara has all the right moves

EG Jansen gymnast Kiara Stears has ensured that her stay in Cape Town, where she is scheduled to compete in the South African Tumbling Championships in Wynberg on October 3, will be prolonged.

This is after she recently qualified for the SA Artistic Gymnastic Championships which will also be held in the Mother City.

The latter meeting is scheduled to take place in Kuils River three days later.

The Grade Eight pupil attended the Eastern Gauteng Artistic Gymnastic Tournament earlier this month in Kempton Park where she finished third overall.

This qualified her to join the Eastern Gauteng team which competed in the Gauteng Artistic Championships on September 9.

A total exceeding 31 points out of a possible 40 in her four events was required for the Beyers Park resident to earn qualification for the national champs.

She scored 8.5 points for her floor event, 8.25 for beam, 8.75 for vault and 8.5 for uneven bars – handing her a total of 34.

“I’m very pleased that all my hard work is paying off and I’m really enjoying it,” said the 14-year-old.

“I’d like to take it further going into next year to go to higher levels.” – @SabeloBoksburg
