Northerns extend Blues’ winless streak

Benoni Northerns Football Club earned a hard-fought 1-0 home victory to condemn fellow strugglers Boksburg to yet another defeat for the Blues.

Having experienced trying times themselves in this current ELFA Super League campaign, the home side finally changed their misfortunes with the vital victory.

Northerns had last won on May 21, losing two and drawing five before the win over the Blues. Things have looked bleaker for the Blues, however.

You’d have to go as far back as April 30 for the Blues’ last win, a handsome 3-1 triumph over Germiston. What followed was a string of losses and a couple of draws.

An extensive change to the side from last campaign can be strongly blamed, including a change to the coaching staff which has made the transition that much tougher for Brennan Peters’ men. But time to adjust is quickly running out as fixtures keep on coming thick and fast.

The Blues next host Corinthians at the Boksburg City Stadium this Saturday before an aggressive August period as the season enters its run-in phase.
