Boksburg Football Club registers first season win

Donovan Sole and Wesley Vollmer scored at either side of half-time to hand Boksburg Football Club a 2-1 away win over Corinthians, in an ELFA Super League encounter, on Saturday, April 23.

It was a weekend of firsts in the Boksburg sporting arena, some unfortunate, others fortunate.

The Blues’ rugby equivalent, the Boksburg Rugby Club, suffered their first league loss following an impressive run, including five consecutive wins.

The Blues, however, had reason to celebrate for their first triumph.

The victory was made sweeter as it was the Blues’ first since their ascension to the Super League, this season.

“It means a lot for the team, we’ve been through slump,” said former captain and current co-coach, Donovan Sole.

Asked what changes were made to accomplish the victory, Sole responded: “We played for each other. The team has changed drastically since winning the Premier League last season, so we’ve been struggling to gel, but we’re beginning to gel well as a team.”

Co-coach Brennan Peters echoed Sole’s sentiments.

“The win was needed after the slow start we made to the season,” he said.

“Our boys showed great heart and character as this was the first of the season.

“We’re putting in hard yards on the training field, hoping it bears fruit in our next matches; we still have a lot of work to do.”

With still a lot of football still to be played, Peters and the rest of the Blues squad have time on their side to put in some extra work.
