CRICKET: CBC prove to be the elder boys against Springs

CBC Old Boys strengthened their case for Eastern Cricket Premier League honours with a seven-wicket home win over Springs Old Boys.

The home side’s flawless outing was again led by red-hot bowler Altus Pretorius who damaged any chance of a Springs win, taking 5/15 including three maidens.

This is after the visitors were sent to bat first.

The visitors consequently failed to pick up any momentum on the scoreboard as they lost wickets in regular fashion before finishing with 91 all-out after 37 overs, leaving CBC, led by Willie Bernhardt in Shaun Liebisch’s absence, with a fairly easy target to overhaul.

In response, Craig Parker gave his side’s batting innings a good start with a smashing 46 runs to set-up the win.

His teammates Dylan Bennie (6) and Mark Pearse (4) added to the course before the duo of Wickus Germishuizen and Nicholas Lockyer sealed the deal.

Germishuizen ended with an unbeaten one while Lockyer ended with an undefeated 14 as the home side secured maximum points after just 13 overs

They collectively posted 92/3 for the win.

Parker’s 46 was the highest score from his side while Keith Bennie took 2/19 with the leather.

With CBC’s rivals Benoni Northerns, Kempton Park and United Cricket Club also showing no signs of slowing down, the Premier League title race looks set to go down to the wire yet again. – @SabeloBoksburg
