CBC Old Boys complete routine win

CBC Old Boys’ Premier XI claimed an 87-run win against KwaThema on Sunday, January 31.

Opening batsman Dylan Bennie led his side with 78 runs in what was a good day at the office for Old Boys in the Eastern Cricket Premier League clash.

The fixture, which was scheduled as KwaThema’s home match, was belatedly moved to CBC, due to the Sahara Park Willowmoore Cricket Stadium being used for a marathon race.

Sent in to bat first, Old Boys gave themselves an encouraging head start as their captain, Shaun Liebisch, opened with Bennie. The skipper’s stay at the crease was short-lived, however, and he was removed after 12 runs.

It was Bennie who put his foot on the gas on his way to his half ton, before his innings ended on 78 – drastically boosting his team’s chances of walking away with the ”W” next to their name.

There were no fireworks from the visiting side following the dismissal of the day’s hero – with the rest of the batting order adding enough to take their side’s tally past the 200-run mark, as Old Boys completed their 50-over innings with 209/7.

KwaThema’s Moses Ditle’s performance with the leather requires exclusive mention, due to his 3/30, including a sole maiden in his allotted 10 overs.

KwaThema were forced into early mistakes in their batting innings, with Old Boys’ bowling attack quickly getting into action.

After a cagey start with the bat and two duck dismissals Ernest Mbalani’s troops couldn’t recover from the deficit and were eventually all out after 38 overs and 122 runs.

Old Boys bowler Craig Parker produced a hat-trick of wickets of his own, finishing with 3/30 and two maidens in his 10 overs.

But, more significantly, his contribution helped his team to walk away with the ”W”. – @SabeloBoksburg
