CBC Old Boys produce top class performance to beat Kempton

CBC Old Boys might have just produced their best performance so far this season.

The Boksburg outfit travelled to the Barnard Stadium on Sunday, January 17, for a meeting with one of their biggest rivals in the Eastern Premier League, Kempton Park, before beating down the former champions in their backyard, for a whopping six-wicket victory.

Asked to chase down an impressive 210 set by the men of stalwart of the local game, Johan Fourie, the visitors stuttered in the opening stages of their innings, losing three wickets with 45 runs on the board.

This is before duo Wickus Germishuizen and Nicholas Lockyer turned the game on its head.

Germishuizen was one run shy of a ton, smashing 99 to leave the encounter in the balance.

Lockyer also entertained as Old Boys began to take the match away from Kempton, en route to a thrilling victory.

Lockyer, who was at the time sharing the crease with Adam Forbes, steered Shaun Liebisch’s men to a win with an unbeaten 55, as all his unused teammates on the batting front, including Mark Pearse, Vincent Moore, Jaydin Liebenberg, Craig Parker and Devon Botha, looked on.

“Wickus [Germishuizen] and Nicholas [Lockyer] played well,” said Kempton front man Fourie.

“They didn’t give us any opportunities at all and they played very well; well done to them.”

Fourie’s counterpart, Liebisch, concurred.

“Wickus and Nicholas took on the responsibility of batting time,” he said.

“Both batsmen produced some mature knocks; both grafted hard during tough times in the match and cashed in on the periods where it got a little easier.

“Top class match-winning performances.”
