The Advertiser chats to BFC captain Donovan Sole and midfielder Andile Mrubata

The Advertiser had a restaurant talk to the league-winning Boksburg FC duo, captain Donovan Sole and midfielder Andile Mrubata, about their thoughts on the milestone of winning the league.

The Advertiser asked:

Captain, you’re the 2015 league champions, your thoughts please?

Personally, it’s my best experience with the club. The team we had this year was phenomenal. We put the graft in to win it. Everyone worked really hard and we deserved it.

Can you describe all the factors that led the team to winning the title?

Donovan: It started off during the pre-season – it was very structured. We started preparing for the season very early and that helped us to get the right guys in. The chairman of the club, Shaun Chaplin, also deserves mention for a fantastic job – thank you to him.

Everyone within the club worked together towards the success, the other sides in the club would come in to support us in big games and it really made a difference.

Andile: Leadership was the biggest factor for me. The captain and the coach were both a pleasure to work under and they led the team professionally. Another factor is the players in the team wanted to play for the team.

What was going through your mind when you were declared champions?

Donovan: I just remember okes running around doing crazy things. It was amazing, we were playing against CBC at CBC and there were about 150 people supporting us. Thawanda Muzakabani scored the winning goal and Andile (Mrubata) scored the first in the 2-0 win.

Andile: It was overwhelming, it was one of those crazy weird moments when you just run to the nearest person and give them a hug. I think we had about four games to spare, the jubilation was crazy. It was also special hearing the fans sing the team’s song.

How do you think you’re going to fare in the Super League?

Donovan: I can see the first couple of games being a stutter as we gradually get our rhythm. We’ve played there before so we know exactly what it’s like. We’re hoping for the best, we’ll definitely have the depth with youngsters from the junior teams coming up. The goal for us is to keep winning.

What message would you like to give to your fans?

Donovan: We’ll need the support from them in the Super League. It would be really nice for them to come and support the super team. We need the support from the whole of Boksburg; we need the backing of the community.

Andile: We’d like to thank them for their support. Thank you to the families who sacrificed their time to give us support. We appreciate it.

The duo agreed during the interview that the coach’s goosebump-producing pre-match speeches and Godwin’s (Muzivandareva) sterling performances throughout the campaign served as big influences as well. – @SabeloBoksburg
