Muir hooks the spotlight at Valke gala dinner

Valke hooker Dean Muir came away with top honours on Thursday evening, November 26, as the Valke acknowledged top achievers at their 2015 gala dinner, held at the Ora Bella Restaurant, in Boksburg North.

The Durban-born Muir was named the Valke Player of the Year and the Player’s Player of the Year – earning him the biggest scoops of the night.

Winger Carlyle Hendriks walked away with the Referee’s Player of the Year prize.

This award is decided by referees throughout the course of the season and the trophy is donated by the Valke Referees Union.

In the junior category, prop Andries Schutte was named the Junior Player of the Year.

Reiger Park’s East Rand United Rugby Club was also acknowledged for their historic exploits this year, before being crowned the 2015 Merlin League champions.

* Tembisa Rugby Club (u-19 side competing in the Ueshe league)

* Tsakane Rugby Club (first side competing in the Ueshe league)

* Kempton Park Rugby Club (winners of the u-16 league)

* Edenvale Rugby Club (winners of the Kestrell league)

* Benoni Rugby Club (winners of the o-13 league, u-21 Merlin league)

* Springs (winners of the o-18 league, winners of the u-21 Peregrine league)

* Brakpan (winners of the Peregrine first side league, club sevens champions, winners of the u-11 league)

* Vereeniging (winners of the u-9, u-12, u-14 leagues, winners of the Peregrine second side league)
