Boksburg left red-faced following Tembisa loss

The Boksburg Cricket Club suffered an embarrassing loss on their Prince George Park home turf, in the hands of Tembisa, on Sunday, November 29.

The match, in which Tembisa produced one of their finest performances this season, saw the visitors, who travelled to Boksburg with the underdog tag, claim a rather convincing five-wicket victory after 18 overs of batting.

Home captain Len Meyer enjoyed the luck during the pre-match coin toss, winning against his direct opposite, Zwelo Ntsimbini, before opting to send Tembisa to field.

Boksburg’s luck, however, existed only within pre-match capacities.

Their struggles within their top-order batting ranks again proved to play a big part in the home side’s demise.

The top four batters in their starting XI, which included all of John Haywood (36), Michael Holtzhausen (10), Heinrich Cronje (4) and Ruan du Plessis (naught), combined for a mere 50 in a shocking batting display which left the rest of the side under all sorts of pressure.

Maxwell Meyer’s (30) efforts to rescue the situation for his side were laudable, but the damage up top proved to be too steep and, try as they might, the Blues just couldn’t get going.

At the end of their innings they had faltered to 110 all-out in the 28th over.

In a shaky, but mostly composed chase, Ntsimbini’s men overhauled the vulnerable target of 111 in less than 20 overs.

Vincent Harold, who top-scored for the day, made a telling contribution to his side’s advances with his 41. Thando Bula, Sphamandla Dapo (both scored 18 runs) and Howard Hareneki (14) all played their part before Tembisa ended the match on 112/6.

This round of fixtures was the last of the Premier League for this year. Action will resume early next year. – @SabeloBoksburg
