Whatever happened to ‘BB Gun’?

Boksburg EFC Africa star Barend ''BB Gun'' Nienaber was last seen on the fighting scene in December, 2014, when he squared up against DRC native Igeu Kabesa, at EFC 36, at the Coca-Cola Dome, in Johannesburg.

The Advertiser caught up with the lightweight fighter to find out about his hexagon hiatus and his return.

Asked about what he’s been up to since his last fight, Nienaber said: “I’ve been in for surgery (nasal) and busy with recovery.

“I’ve started training at a new gym, CIT, training every day during the week. Just taking time to recover 100 per cent and training to become the best. The new gym has improved a lot of holes I use to have, I’m the best fighter I have ever been.”

Nienaber sustained the injury back in 2013, while fighting for his EFC Pro Licence in Pretoria, where he got a blow to the nose – a problem that left him with improper breathing.

He is scheduled to return to the hexagon in October or November, pending confirmation from EFC.

EFC’s next event, EFC 43, is scheduled to take place in Durban, at the International Convention Centre, on August 27. – @SabeloBoksburg
