Springs fend off Boksburg threat

Springs defeated Boksburg 29-16 in the two sides’ penultimate Peregrine League match, on the Prince George Park ground, on Friday evening, July 24.

Owls fly-half PJ Beukes had one of his better games of the season, despite the loss, and gave a Man of the Match performance.

The No 10 scored all of his side’s points, via his own converted try and three penalties.

Springs’ prolific performance was rewarded with a bonus point, as the visitors dotted down four times and solidified their third place standing on the log behind Vereeniging and the rampant Brakpan.

The win took Springs to 39 points after 11 outings, while the Owls remained on 12 points, with the same number of games played – with only NWU trailing behind them.

In the day’s earlier kick-offs, Boksburg’s u-21 side beat Springs 19-11, with the visitors emerged victorious in a low scoring battle of the deputy teams, 5-0.
